Lahore: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has taken notice of a fatal road accident in Shahdara, Lahore, where a man lost his life and several others sustained injuries after being struck by a car driven by an underage driver.
Deeply concerned over the increasing number of traffic incidents involving minors behind the wheel, Dr. Anwar has instructed regional and district police authorities to initiate a province-wide campaign against underage and unlicensed drivers.
He stated that minors must not be permitted to drive on public roads under any circumstances, citing them as a major cause of road accidents and fatalities. The IGP also directed the use of Safe Cities Authority surveillance systems to monitor and identify traffic violations committed by underage drivers.
Additionally, Dr. Anwar called for strict legal action against the parents or guardians of such drivers. He reiterated a zero-tolerance policy on overspeeding, overloading, and wrong-way driving, emphasizing the need for rigorous enforcement of traffic regulations throughout Punjab.
