ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Poland in Islamabad hosted a reception to mark Poland’s National Day, commemorating the historic Third May Constitution of 1791—an enduring symbol of freedom, self-determination, and civic values cherished by generations of Poles for over two centuries.
Addressing distinguished guests, including government officials, parliamentarians, diplomats, and members of civil society, the Polish Ambassador reflected on the significance of the day while sharing personal and professional experiences from his four-and-a-half-year tenure in Pakistan.
“This is not a farewell speech,” he remarked, though acknowledging that his diplomatic assignment in Pakistan may soon conclude. He described his time in the country as filled with “unique moments, exceptional encounters, and unforeseen experiences” that transformed both his personal and professional life.
Highlighting the current global landscape, the ambassador spoke about ongoing conflicts and humanitarian crises, including the war in Ukraine and the situation in Gaza, while emphasizing the need for justice, self-determination, and adherence to international law. He also noted Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts in mediating tensions in the Middle East, referring to the “Islamabad Process” as a hopeful step toward de-escalation.
Despite global challenges, he expressed satisfaction over the steady progress in Poland-Pakistan relations. He termed the October 2025 visit of Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to Islamabad as a milestone that opened “a new chapter” in bilateral cooperation. Engagements with Pakistan’s leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, President Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, were described as constructive and forward-looking.
The ambassador also highlighted growing economic ties, noting that bilateral trade surpassed $1.3 billion last year. He pointed to significant Polish investments in Pakistan, particularly by the Polish Oil and Gas Company (part of the Orlen Group), which has invested $500 million in gas exploration projects in Sindh, contributing to local energy supply and skill development.
He further identified emerging areas of collaboration, including fintech and green technologies, where both countries can leverage mutual strengths.
Reflecting on people-to-people connections, the ambassador underscored the embassy’s partnerships with Pakistani NGOs in education, vocational training, and women empowerment initiatives, particularly in Islamabad and the northern regions. Cultural exchanges, including music collaborations and mountaineering heritage, were also highlighted as key elements of bilateral engagement.
In his concluding remarks, the ambassador expressed gratitude to his wife, embassy staff, local colleagues, and Pakistani friends for their support and hospitality throughout his stay.
“Thank you for helping us discover the true spirit of Pakistan,” he said, mentioning cities such as Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Peshawar, Skardu, and Hunza as memorable highlights of his journey.
The event concluded on a warm note with the ambassador expressing appreciation in Urdu, saying, “Hamari Pakistani doston – bohot shukria,” followed by “Pak-Poland dosti zindabad,” drawing applause from the audience.
