ISLAMABAD (MNN); Amid reports of internal rifts within PTI, no party leader reached Adiala Jail on Thursday to meet former prime minister Imran Khan, despite it being one of the designated visiting days.
The Islamabad High Court has permitted meetings with Imran Khan twice a week — Tuesdays and Thursdays — for family, lawyers and selected associates. However, these orders have largely not been implemented in recent months.
A day earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja had submitted a list of party leaders to the jail authorities for Thursday’s ملاقات, but none arrived before the 4pm deadline.
PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the party had taken serious notice of the situation and would review the matter. He noted that many workers regularly attempt to visit Adiala Jail despite not being on the approved list, adding that stricter measures would be taken to ensure only committed individuals are nominated.
Separately, PTI leader Asghar Khan Lehri said he could not attend due to a family emergency but expressed pride in being nominated for the ملاقات, reaffirming his long association with the party.
A similar situation occurred last week when several senior leaders, including top party figures, also failed to visit the former premier despite being nominated.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan’s sisters have continued to appear outside Adiala Jail on visiting days in efforts to meet him, though access has not been granted by authorities.
