LAHORE; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) President Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra on Sunday, where the two leaders reviewed the country’s overall political and economic situation.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also attended the meeting. Party matters, the national economy, and governance issues were discussed in detail.
According to party insiders, Nawaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s economy needed further strengthening and noted that the country was gradually moving toward progress. Commending Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s performance, he said that the international community had also recognized his hard work and commitment.
The former premier also lauded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s efforts, particularly in maintaining law and order in Punjab, adding that under her leadership, the province was making significant strides in development and governance.
Party sources said the Sharif brothers exchanged views on political strategy, government policies, and the overall direction of the PMLN. They reaffirmed their determination to work together for national stability, economic recovery, and public welfare.
The discussion also covered the ongoing rift between the PPP and PMLN, the political landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the upcoming local government elections in Punjab.
Sources added that the situation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border was reviewed, with both leaders paying tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their effective and measured response to recent provocations. Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated that the entire nation stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in defending the country.
Later in the day, Shehbaz Sharif visited the residence of senior PMLN leader Mian Marghoob Ahmed in Lahore to offer condolences over the passing of his wife.
