ISLAMABAD; The National Assembly (NA) Secretariat has formally removed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub from the position of Leader of the Opposition, declaring the post vacant through an official notification. The chamber allocated for the opposition leader has also been withdrawn from PTI.
The NA speaker is expected to issue a notification soon for the appointment of a new opposition leader. According to the NA Secretariat, three major parliamentary posts previously held by PTI have now been vacated including the post of parliamentary leader held by Zartaj Gul and the deputy parliamentary leader position held by Ahmad Chatha.
The notification further stated that Omar Ayub has been removed from the Public Accounts Committee and the Finance Committee. Additionally, membership of various standing committees has been withdrawn from seven PTI MNAs who were earlier disqualified.
This development comes amid heightened political tensions between PTI and the ruling coalition, as the party faces mounting legal and parliamentary setbacks following the disqualification of several of its members under the Election Act and recent judicial rulings.
The removal of PTI’s top parliamentary positions is seen as a strategic shift that could alter the balance of opposition dynamics in the National Assembly.
