Islamabad: The National Assembly of Pakistan has moved forward with the approval of the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025-2026, giving its nod to 69 demands for grants from various ministries and divisions. Significantly, no motions for cuts were presented against these specific demands, indicating broad consensus on their necessity.
During the session, presided over by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presented demands related to several crucial sectors, including Climate Change, Communications, Pakistan Post Office, Defense Production, Economic Affairs, the Federal Board of Revenue, the National Assembly itself, the Senate, and the National Accountability Bureau.
In a separate but related development, the National Assembly also approved 29 demands totaling over Rs 81.75 billion to cover the expenses of the Cabinet Division for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. In this instance, the House rejected 225 cut motions put forth by the opposition, demonstrating the government’s ability to push through its budgetary allocations.
The process of approving the remaining demands for grants is currently underway in the National Assembly. This progress marks a significant step towards the finalization of the federal budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
