
Islamabad: Marking the International Day of Parliamentarism, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the central role of parliament in safeguarding democratic systems and upholding the rule of law. In his special message, he emphasized that parliamentary supremacy is essential for consolidating democracy and ensuring that public aspirations are effectively represented.
He noted that Pakistan’s National Assembly is an active member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and has been contributing positively at the global level to advance democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. The Speaker stressed that fostering public participation, transparency, and accountability is indispensable for establishing a dynamic and effective parliament.
Sadiq reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment not only to protecting parliamentary autonomy but also to promoting democratic values, strengthening legal frameworks, and safeguarding fundamental human rights in the country. He added that in collaboration with the IPU, Pakistan’s parliament will continue efforts to achieve global peace, democracy, and sustainable development goals.
Underscoring the importance of parliamentary linkages for regional peace and progress, he said that inter-parliamentary cooperation enhances mutual understanding and lays the foundation for lasting stability across the region.
