LAHORE; The Lahore High Court (LHC) has refused to hear the appeal petitions filed by PTI leader Zartaj Gul unless she surrenders first. The court also ordered that Zartaj Gul be produced before it.
The appeals were filed by Zartaj Gul challenging her conviction in three separate cases related to the May 9 incident. However, an objection was raised by the LHC registrar’s office regarding the maintainability of the appeals without her prior surrender.
A two-member bench of the LHC, headed by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum, upheld the registrar’s objection during Monday’s hearing. The Chief Justice remarked that Zartaj Gul must appear in court and surrender before the court can proceed to hear her appeals.
Zartaj Gul’s appeal petitions were submitted through senior lawyers Mian Muhammad Hussain Chotiya and Barrister Ali Zafar. The appeals challenge three separate verdicts handed down by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Faisalabad, where she was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in each case.
The LHC registrar’s office maintained that since Zartaj Gul has been convicted, she must surrender first before her appeals can be entertained.
