PHC Orders Removal of Azam Swati’s Name from ECL, Grants Conditional Relief Amid Ongoing Legal Challenges

PESHAWAR; The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed authorities to remove the name of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former federal minister Azam Khan Swati from the Exit Control List (ECL), subject to conditions aimed at ensuring his cooperation with ongoing investigations.

The decision came in a written verdict issued by the court on Friday in response to Swati’s petition seeking the removal of travel restrictions placed on him.

The PHC accepted the plea but ordered that Swati must submit surety bonds worth Rs 50 million and remain available to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) whenever summoned. The court also directed that the surety be submitted with the PHC registrar.

Swati, who has been facing a series of legal troubles over the past year, is currently involved in multiple cases, including one registered recently in Islamabad.

In a related development, he also filed a petition in the PHC seeking transit bail to allow him safe passage to appear before courts in Islamabad without the threat of arrest.

According to the bail petition, another case has been lodged against him in the federal capital, and while he intends to comply with court proceedings, there are serious concerns about his possible arrest during transit.

Swati has requested protection to ensure his appearance in court without hindrance.

Azam Swati, a vocal PTI stalwart, has remained in the legal spotlight following controversial public statements and allegations leveled against state institutions.

His name was earlier placed on the ECL amid ongoing inquiries. The PHC’s conditional relief now allows him limited mobility as legal proceedings continue.
