LAHORE; A high-stakes defamation case involving senior political figures continues to unfold in Lahore, where PTI leader Sheikh Waqas Akram has sued former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry for Rs 1 billion in damages.

Akram claims that Chaudhry made baseless and defamatory statements that severely tarnished his reputation.

During the latest hearing, held before Additional Judge Sohail Sheikh, the counsels for Sheikh Waqas Akram completed their preliminary arguments, laying out how Chaudhry’s remarks allegedly caused reputational and political harm.

The court subsequently adjourned the proceedings until July 15 for the next phase of the trial.

This legal battle stems from Chaudhry’s public statements targeting Akram, which the latter contends were false and malicious.

The case highlights the deepening rivalries and personal grudges that often spill into Pakistan’s courts, with political leaders increasingly turning to defamation suits to counter damaging allegations.
