Islamabad: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has significantly increased production at its Rajian-05 well in Punjab’s Chakwal district by installing an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), marking a major step forward in enhancing domestic energy output.
According to a company statement, the well’s output has risen to 3,100 barrels of oil per day (BPD) and 1.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas following a planned workover and ESP installation. Prior to this enhancement, the well was producing 820 BPD of oil and 0.5 MMSCFD of gas.
Rajian Field, situated under the Gujar Khan Exploration License and wholly owned and operated by OGDCL, has been a part of the company’s production base since its discovery in August 1994. The latest development at well-05 adds to earlier successes at two other wells in the field that were also equipped with ESPs.
This improvement reflects OGDCL’s strategic focus on optimizing production through targeted redevelopment of mature assets, using data-driven techniques. The company’s efforts aim to strengthen national energy security and promote long-term sustainability.
Traditionally, Artificial Lift Systems (ALS) have been applied to inactive or underperforming wells. However, OGDCL is now expanding the use of such systems to naturally flowing wells where technical and financial evaluations show clear benefits.
This move is consistent with international best practices and supports the company’s broader goals of improving efficiency and maximizing recovery across its assets. OGDCL remains committed to adopting advanced technologies and innovative field management approaches to help secure Pakistan’s energy future.
