ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Tuesday once again voiced serious concerns over the health of its jailed founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, warning that delays in medical treatment could result in permanent damage to his eyesight.
In a statement issued on social media platform X, the party said it had received credible reports indicating that Imran Khan was suffering from a serious eye condition that required urgent medical intervention. PTI demanded that he be allowed unrestricted meetings with his family and close associates and be transferred to a hospital of his own choice for treatment.
According to the statement, Imran Khan had reportedly been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, a condition described as a dangerous blockage in the retinal vein. The party said medical experts who examined him in jail had termed the ailment extremely serious and warned that failure to provide timely and proper treatment could lead to irreversible vision loss.
PTI accused the jail administration of insisting that treatment be carried out within the prison, despite a specialist doctor’s opinion that such care could not be provided there. The party said the required treatment needed an operation theatre and specialised medical facilities, which were unavailable inside the jail.
The statement further claimed that Imran Khan was last examined by his personal physician in October 2024 and that subsequent access had been denied, despite orders issued by the Islamabad High Court. PTI termed this a blatant violation of court orders and fundamental human rights.
The party also pointed out that a petition seeking regular medical check-ups for Imran Khan had been pending since August 2025 and was yet to be decided. PTI alleged that the government’s actions reflected political vendetta and accused authorities of endangering the life and health of a prisoner.
PTI demanded that Imran Khan be immediately allowed to receive treatment at Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any other reputable medical facility of his choosing. It appealed to the judiciary to treat the matter as a question of health and human life rather than politics.
Separately, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital issued a statement expressing grave concern over Imran Khan’s health. While expressing confidence in the doctors currently attending to him, the hospital requested that a team of its physicians be granted immediate access to participate in his care to address public concern.
Meanwhile, PTI lawmakers filed a fresh petition at the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, along with several MNAs, appeared at the court premises to complete biometric verification for the submission.
Speaking to the media, Gohar said Tuesdays were designated for meetings with Imran Khan, but repeated requests had been denied. He also expressed concern over the health of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, stressing that meeting prisoners was a legal right.
In a separate development, a local court extended interim bail to Imran Khan in five additional cases related to May 9 incidents and to Bushra Bibi in a Toshakhana-related case until February 6.
