Sports Desk (MNN); Pakistan registered a dominant eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe in their final group-stage match of the ongoing ICC Under-19 World Cup, securing qualification for the Super Six round.
After suffering a 37-run defeat against England in their opening match, the Green Shirts bounced back strongly with consecutive victories over Scotland and Zimbabwe.
The win ensured Pakistan finished second in the group standings, behind table-toppers England. Under the tournament format, the top three teams from each of the four groups advance to the Super Six stage, meaning Zimbabwe also progressed despite the loss.
Pakistan Under-19 captain Farhan Yousaf won the toss and opted to bat first at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare.
Sameer Minhas was named player of the match after scoring an unbeaten 74 off 75 balls, including six fours and four sixes. He was well supported by Usman Khan, who made 26 runs, and Ahmed Hussain, who contributed 24.
Pakistan’s bowlers then put in a commanding display to restrict Zimbabwe. Ali Raza led the attack with three wickets and delivered four maiden overs. Mohammad Sayyam, Abdul Subhan and Momin Qamar chipped in with two wickets apiece.
For Zimbabwe, Nathaniel Hlabangana top-scored with 59, but lacked support from the rest of the batting line-up. Eight Zimbabwean batters failed to reach double figures as the hosts were bowled out for 128 in 35.5 overs.
In reply, Pakistan comfortably chased down the target in the 27th over, losing just two wickets to seal a convincing victory.
