ISLAMABAD (MNN); Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Tuesday cautioned that hostile actors against Pakistan are increasingly resorting to indirect and ambiguous strategies, including the use of proxies, instead of open confrontation.
During his visit to the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, the field marshal was briefed by civil and military participants of the ongoing national security and war course on their academic assessments of emerging security challenges, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Field Marshal Munir noted that adversaries are exploiting internal vulnerabilities through proxy elements and hybrid tactics. He stressed that future leaders must be properly trained and remain vigilant to identify, anticipate and counter complex, multi-layered cognitive and hybrid threats.
The army chief outlined the rapidly evolving global, regional and internal security landscape, saying Pakistan faces sustained challenges across multiple domains, including conventional and sub-conventional warfare, intelligence, cyber, information, military and economic fronts.
He emphasised that these threats require comprehensive multi-domain preparedness, continuous adaptation and close coordination among all components of national power. The field marshal also highlighted the importance of sound decision-making under uncertainty and mental resilience in today’s contested security environment.
Commending NDU’s role, he said professional military education was vital for building institutional strength, promoting indigenous capabilities and ensuring long-term national resilience. He appreciated the participants’ analysis and urged them to remain alert, adaptive and committed to the values of integrity, discipline and selfless service.
