RAWALPINDI (MNN); Security forces killed seven terrorists during two operations in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ISPR said on Tuesday. The actions were conducted based on intelligence reports about the presence of khawarij, a term the state uses for militants linked with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to ISPR, an intelligence-based operation was carried out in Mir Ali, where troops engaged the militants. After a heavy exchange of fire, six terrorists were killed. In a separate operation in Spinwam, one more terrorist was eliminated. Weapons and ammunition were recovered at the scene. The ISPR said the militants were involved in multiple attacks on security forces, law-enforcement agencies and the targeted killing of civilians.
The military added that sanitisation of the area was underway to clear any remaining militants as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.
Earlier in the day, Miranshah Assistant Commissioner Shah Wali and two police officials were among four people martyred when Wali’s vehicle was attacked in Bannu district. Bannu DIG Sajjad Khan said the attackers opened fire and then set the vehicle ablaze. A search operation was launched, with security placed on high alert in the area.
Bilal Saqib, the assistant commissioner’s secretary, said the attack occurred around 10am while Wali was travelling to appear before a court. Two constables and a civilian working nearby were martyred, while two police officers sustained injuries.
Pakistan has seen a rise in terrorist attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the TTP called off its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
