ISLAMABAD (MNN); Jordan’s King Abdullah II arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for a two-day state visit, where he was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari at Nur Khan Airbase. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari were also present to greet the visiting monarch and his delegation.
President Zardari noted that the visit would add a new strategic dimension to Pakistan–Jordan relations, describing the bilateral ties as rooted in historical brotherhood, mutual confidence and shared values. According to a statement shared by PTV News on X, the visit reflects the long-established fraternal bond between the two countries and is expected to further strengthen cooperation across political, economic and cultural spheres.
The Jordanian king is scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, followed by discussions at the delegation level. The statement added that the visit would help reinforce the longstanding relationship and expand avenues of cooperation between the two nations.
The President’s Secretariat said a formation of Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder jets provided a special escort as the royal aircraft entered Pakistani airspace. Upon reaching the Prime Minister’s House, King Abdullah II was presented with a guard of honour.
The monarch last visited Pakistan on the invitation of former president Mamnoon Hussain, during which the two sides signed two memoranda of understanding — one on cooperation in civil protection and defence, and another in the housing sector.
Just last month, King Abdullah II praised the role of Pakistan’s military in promoting regional peace and stability during a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, who was on an official visit to Jordan. The meeting was also attended by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
