QUETTA (MNN); Train services across Balochistan remained suspended on Sunday following a series of terror attacks in the province a day earlier, officials said.
Authorities confirmed that train operations from Quetta to Chaman, Karachi and Peshawar had not yet been restored as search and security operations continued in the provincial capital. Several major national highways linking Quetta with other parts of the country were also temporarily closed to traffic.
Railway officials said services were halted immediately after Saturday’s incidents. They announced that the Peshawar-bound Jaffer Express and the Karachi-bound Bolan Express would remain suspended. In addition, the Quetta–Zahedan and Quetta–Chaman train services were also non-operational.
Passenger coach services to Punjab, Karachi and Sibi were similarly suspended. According to the district administration, these precautionary measures were taken to maintain law and order in the wake of the attacks.
Officials said train and coach services would be resumed once the security situation normalised.
Meanwhile, traffic between Punjab and Balochistan was also suspended. Authorities in Dera Ghazi Khan said all roads leading from Punjab to Balochistan were closed on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner DG Khan Usman Khalid stated that highways connecting Balochistan through Fort Munro and Tunsa Musa Khel had been temporarily shut, adding that passengers were currently unable to travel from Dera Ghazi Khan to Balochistan.
Traffic was also stopped at border points linked with Balochistan, including Boatha and Sakhi Sarwar.
The restrictions followed security forces’ operations against the militant group Fitna Al Hindustan in several Balochistan cities, during which 92 militants, including three suicide bombers, were killed.
