LAHORE (MNN); The Punjab government on Monday replaced Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar and appointed senior police officer Rao Abdul Karim as the new Inspector General of Punjab Police, sources said.
According to sources, Rao Abdul Karim has formally assumed charge of the top police post. Although no official notification had been issued immediately, his appointment was confirmed by senior officials.
Earlier, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Additional Inspector General Counter Terrorism Department Waseem Sial were also being considered for the position of IG Punjab.
Dr Usman Anwar, who served as Punjab’s police chief for the past three years, is expected to be posted as Secretary Interior. Officials said the federal government has sought his services, pointing to a likely key role at the centre.
Sources further revealed that Dr Anwar is also under consideration for an important federal assignment, in view of his extensive experience with the Federal Investigation Agency.
