ISLAMABAD: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is set to pay a two-day official visit to Pakistan on February 3–4, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Pakistan and Kazakhstan enjoy cordial diplomatic relations, with Kazakhstan ranking as Pakistan’s largest export market among Central Asian states.
The visit will take place at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. President Tokayev will be accompanied by a senior delegation that includes cabinet ministers and other top officials.
According to the foreign ministry, “President Tokayev is expected to meet with the President of Pakistan, hold talks with the prime minister, and address the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum.”
Owing to its strategic geographic position, Kazakhstan provides Pakistan with a gateway to markets in Russia, Central Asia, and Eastern Europe. It is the largest economy in Central Asia in terms of land area and natural resources.
The ministry said the visit will offer Islamabad and Astana “an important and timely opportunity to undertake a comprehensive review” of their bilateral relationship.
Both sides are also expected to explore new areas of cooperation, especially in trade, logistics, regional connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges, while also discussing collaboration at regional and international platforms.
“The forthcoming visit reflects the strengthening bonds between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, their mutual commitment to transforming historic and cultural affinities into robust cooperation, and their common desire for peace and progress in the region,” the statement noted.
The visit is widely viewed as mutually beneficial. For Pakistan, it supports efforts to present itself as a key land corridor linking Central and South Asia and beyond. For Kazakhstan, it offers a chance to diversify its trade partnerships at a time of uncertainty in Eurasia following the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Previously, in September, Pakistan and Kazakhstan signed an Action Plan of Cooperation aimed at enhancing bilateral ties during a visit by then Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister Murat Nurtleu to Pakistan.
