LAHORE (MNN); Mubashra Khawar Maneka, daughter of Bushra Bibi, on Monday withdrew her petition filed in the Lahore High Court seeking permission to meet her incarcerated mother.
Maneka had approached the LHC on January 16, requesting meetings with Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan. However, the court registrar raised objections over the maintainability of the plea, advising the petitioner to approach the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court.
During the hearing, Justice Farooq Haider upheld the registrar office’s objection regarding territorial jurisdiction, observing that the petition was not maintainable before the principal seat of the LHC. Following the observation, Maneka’s counsel withdrew the petition, after which the court disposed of the case.
The petition, filed through Lahore High Court Bar Association President Malik Asif Nissoana, had named the inspector general of prisons, the superintendent of Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, and others as respondents.
It stated that the Adiala Jail administration had prevented the petitioner from meeting her imprisoned mother without providing any written justification. The plea maintained that despite being a blood relative and Tuesday being the designated meeting day, Maneka was denied permission to visit her mother.
The petition further expressed concern over Bushra Bibi’s physical, emotional and psychological well-being, alleging mala fide intent and misuse of authority on the part of jail officials. It had sought court directions for an immediate meeting.
Bushra Bibi is currently serving a seven-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case. She has also recently been handed a 17-year prison term in the Toshakhana-II case, related to the alleged purchase of an expensive jewellery set gifted to former prime minister Imran Khan by the Saudi crown prince in 2021.
