TURBAT; At least six people, including five Levies Force personnel, were injured on Monday when a remote-controlled bomb targeted the convoy of Kech Deputy Commissioner (DC) Major (retd) Bashir Barech in Turbat, Balochistan, police said.
According to Kech Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Captain (retd) Zohaib Mohsin, the attack occurred on Press Club Road, where a motorcycle had been rigged with explosives. “The device was detonated through remote control when the DC’s convoy passed by,” he said.
The explosion injured five Levies officials and one civilian passerby, while the deputy commissioner remained unharmed. One of the official vehicles was badly damaged in the attack, the SSP added.
Security forces and police personnel reached the site immediately and cordoned off the area, while a search operation was launched to locate the perpetrators.
The blast is the latest in a series of terrorist incidents that have rocked Balochistan in recent weeks, as militant groups continue to target law enforcement agencies and security forces.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over the resurgence of terrorism during a workshop in Islamabad, stressing the need to examine the “factors behind renewed unrest” in the province.
Earlier this month, a railway worker was killed when a bomb exploded on railway tracks near Dera Murad Jamali, marking the fourth such attack on rail infrastructure in October alone.
Balochistan has faced a surge in militant violence in recent months, with attacks in Quetta, Mastung, Chaman, and Turbat targeting security personnel and civilians alike.
