LAHORE; The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced the beginning of the ninth spell of monsoon rains, warning that heavy downpours are expected across several districts until September 2.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, showers are forecast in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur.
Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has directed district administrations and relevant provincial departments to stay on high alert and ensure precautionary measures are in place to minimize risks.
This fresh spell comes at a time when Pakistan is already grappling with the devastating impacts of an unusually harsh monsoon season. Since late June, heavy rains and flash floods have caused widespread destruction, leaving hundreds dead, displacing thousands of families, and damaging critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and health facilities. Authorities fear that further downpours could worsen the situation, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The PDMA has urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel in affected regions, and cooperate with rescue and relief teams in case of emergencies.
