MIRANSHAH; Tribal elders from North Waziristan on Saturday voiced strong support for the Pakistan Army’s zero-tolerance approach towards militancy and pledged to stand united against what they called “India-sponsored Fitna-al-Khawarij,” Geo News reported.

The commitment was made during a jirga convened in Miranshah with the support of the military. The elders pledged full backing to the armed forces in their efforts to restore lasting peace and eliminate extremist elements from the region.

Participants paid tribute to the sacrifices of the security forces and martyrs, assuring the authorities of their continued cooperation in confronting terrorism and those fueling unrest.

Separately, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired a similar jirga at the CM House, emphasizing the importance of tribal consultation in restoring peace in the region.

Gandapur announced the formation of a 20-member jirga comprising representatives from the merged tribal districts, which will develop a comprehensive peace strategy to be presented to both the provincial government and military leadership.

Pakistan has witnessed a marked increase in terrorist attacks since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, with the provinces of KP and Balochistan bearing the brunt of the violence.

According to a recent report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the country saw a 42% spike in terror incidents in January 2025 compared to the previous month, with law enforcement and security personnel being the primary targets.
