Web Desk; Not sure where to travel in 2026? Lonely Planet has just made that decision easier. The renowned travel guide has released its “Best in Travel 2026” list, spotlighting 25 must-visit destinations and 25 unforgettable experiences for the coming year. The announcement, made on October 21, is accompanied by curated travel itineraries through the company’s new planning service, Lonely Planet Journeys.
Nitya Chambers, the company’s executive editor and senior VP of content, highlighted some standout destinations. Among her favorites is Brazil’s Liberdade district in São Paulo, often called “Little Japan,” home to the world’s largest Japanese community outside Japan. “It’s full of surprises — anime-inspired art, Japanese gardens, and arguably the best ramen outside Tokyo,” Chambers said.
Mexico City also earned high praise for its mix of history, art, and cuisine, with neighborhoods like Coyoacán, La Roma, and La Condesa offering vibrant local experiences.
In the United States, North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the scenic state of Maine were chosen for their natural beauty and adventure opportunities. In Europe, Tipperary in Ireland was described as a “hidden gem,” known for its scenic drives and countryside charm.
Asian destinations also feature prominently, with Thailand’s Phuket evolving from a honeymoon hotspot into a favorite work-and-travel haven for digital nomads. Other entries include Botswana, Jeju Island (South Korea), Cádiz (Spain), Sardinia (Italy), Tunisia, Barbados, Colombia’s Cartagena, Finland, and Cambodia’s Siem Reap.
With choices spanning five continents, Lonely Planet’s 2026 list celebrates global diversity, offering something for every traveler — from remote adventures to cultural immersion and culinary exploration.
