ISLAMABAD; The Foreign Office (FO) announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Egypt on Monday, October 13, 2025, to participate in the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit.

The summit will also feature the signing ceremony of a landmark peace agreement aimed at ending the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

According to the FO statement, the visit is taking place at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with other senior cabinet members.

The summit is being held at a time when there are encouraging signs that Palestinians may finally see relief from Israel’s two-year-long military onslaught. Over 67,000 Palestinians have been killed during this period, with the death toll continuing to rise as more bodies are recovered.

The breakthrough comes after US President Trump, with the support of eight Muslim nations, mediated a truce between Hamas and Israel, laying the foundation for ending the Gaza genocide through a comprehensive 20-point peace plan.

The FO highlighted that the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit is the outcome of extensive diplomatic efforts that began on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York last month.

On September 23, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz joined leaders from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Indonesia, and Turkiye in a summit-level meeting with President Trump to explore pathways to lasting peace in Gaza.

The joint statement issued at the time welcomed US mediation efforts and reaffirmed the collective commitment of these nations to achieving a sustainable ceasefire and addressing the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The FO emphasized that Pakistan’s participation in the summit reflects its consistent and principled support for the Palestinian cause and their right to self-determination.

Islamabad hopes the summit will pave the way for full Israeli withdrawal, protection of civilians, return of displaced Palestinians, release of prisoners, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

The peace summit will be jointly chaired by President Trump and President Sisi, and attended by world leaders including the UN Secretary-General, British PM Keir Starmer, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II. Leaders from more than 20 countries are expected to participate. However, Israel and Hamas will not attend the conference.
