ISLAMABAD; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a three-day official visit to Malaysia from October 5 to 7 at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Foreign Office (FO) announced on Saturday.

In a statement, the FO said that the premier will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, several federal ministers, and senior government officials. The delegation is scheduled to depart on Sunday.

The visit underscores the strong and long-standing strategic partnership between Pakistan and Malaysia, which is founded on mutual respect, shared interests, and close collaboration across multiple sectors.

During the visit, PM Shehbaz will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Ibrahim, focusing on key regional and global developments, and exploring avenues to enhance cooperation in trade, IT and telecommunications, the Halal industry, investment, education, energy, infrastructure, the digital economy, and people-to-people exchanges.

The two leaders are also expected to witness the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to deepen cooperation in existing and emerging areas.

Earlier this month, Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan highlighted the strong historical ties between Kuala Lumpur and Islamabad. Speaking at an event in Karachi, he noted that Pakistan was among the earliest countries to recognise Malaysia’s independence on August 31, 1957.

He added that Justice Abdul Hamid of Pakistan played a vital role in drafting Malaysia’s constitution, further strengthening the historic bond between the two nations.
