PESHAWAR: At least nine people, including four policemen, were injured in a blast near Peshawar’s Bani Mara area on Thursday, police officials confirmed.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr. Mian Saeed newsmen that the explosion appeared to have specifically targeted police personnel.
“Initial findings suggest the device was planted along the route of a police mobile,” he said, adding that the condition of one of the injured was reported as critical. Rescue teams quickly shifted the wounded to nearby hospitals.
The CCPO further stated that investigators were examining whether the explosion was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED). According to the police, four of the injured were law enforcement officials while five were civilians.
Following the incident, heavy contingents of police and security forces rushed to the scene, sealed off the area, and collected forensic evidence. Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Masood Bangash confirmed that evidence recovery was underway.
