NEW YORK; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and participate in a high-profile multilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and leaders of key Muslim countries. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, cabinet members, and senior officials.
During the UNGA’s high-level segment, PM Shehbaz will deliver Pakistan’s address, highlighting pressing international concerns. He will raise the crises in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Gaza, urging decisive global action to end Israel’s aggression that has killed over 65,000 Palestinians and displaced Gaza’s entire population.
White House officials confirmed that President Trump will meet leaders of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Indonesia to discuss Gaza. Reports suggest Trump will present a post-war peace proposal, seeking Muslim nations’ support for stabilisation, security, and reconstruction efforts.
The Prime Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, IMF Managing Director, and the World Bank chief. He will attend sessions on climate action, sustainable development, and the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
Meanwhile, Pakistan welcomed recent recognition of Palestine by France, the UK, Australia, Canada, and others. At an international conference on Palestine, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for a two-state solution, calling for recognition of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan reiterated its condemnation of Israeli aggression and demanded an immediate, permanent ceasefire, humanitarian access, and adherence to UN and OIC resolutions.
