ISLAMABAD; Advocate Emaan Mazari has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking preservation of CCTV footage from Courtroom No. 1 following a heated exchange between her and Chief Justice (CJ) IHC, Justice Sarfraz Dogar.
In a written application submitted to the registrar of the IHC, Mazari stated that an “unfortunate incident” occurred on September 11 during court proceedings before the Chief Justice. She argued that preservation of CCTV footage is essential to establish the factual account of what transpired between her and the CJ in open court.
Mazari specifically requested that CCTV footage from Courtroom No. 1 covering the period between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on September 11 be preserved. She further asked that a copy of the footage be provided to her for the record. Along with her petition, she also submitted a USB device for storage of the relevant video material.
The incident in question comes amid heightened tensions between the bar and bench over courtroom decorum and judicial conduct. Reports suggest that during proceedings earlier this week, a verbal confrontation broke out after remarks made by the Chief Justice were strongly objected to by Mazari.
Legal experts point out that similar petitions for preservation of CCTV footage have previously been filed in matters involving courtroom disputes, as video evidence is often critical in determining the accuracy of conflicting claims. The case is expected to reignite debate over transparency and accountability in judicial proceedings.
