ISLAMABAD; The United Kingdom has announced £1.33 million in humanitarian assistance to support Pakistan’s response to the devastation caused by the 2025 monsoon season, which has already claimed nearly 750 lives nationwide.

The aid package will benefit more than 223,000 people across seven flood-affected districts in Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to an official statement.

The UK’s support covers emergency food rations, search and rescue operations, mobile medical camps, rehabilitation of drinking water systems, restoration of irrigation channels, and recovery of livelihoods and agriculture.

“Through UK-funded programmes, vital assistance is reaching communities affected by flooding and landslides,” British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said. She added that London was working closely with Pakistan’s federal and provincial authorities to strengthen disaster response and resilience.

As part of the initiative, the UK has trained 2,400 community volunteers for search-and-rescue operations in disaster-prone districts. In Charsadda, 25 volunteers have joined Rescue 1122 teams in Buner to help locate missing people and rescue those trapped under debris.

Mobile medical camps are also being deployed in areas where health facilities have been damaged, ensuring access to essential healthcare. Relief distributions include food and non-food items, shelter materials, and dignity kits for women.

Meanwhile, UN OCHA coordinators in Swat and Buner are helping streamline the work of humanitarian organisations to ensure aid reaches victims effectively and efficiently.

Torrential rains over the past week have triggered floods and landslides that swept away entire villages. On Wednesday, the NDMA reported 11 additional deaths in GB and confirmed that more than 400 people have been killed in KP since last Thursday.
