KARACHI/HYDERABAD; The family of journalist Khawar Hussain, who was recently found dead on Hyderabad Road near Sanghar, has rejected police findings that his death was a case of suicide. His father, who arrived in Pakistan along with other family members from the United States, termed the incident a “cold-blooded murder” and demanded a transparent investigation.
“My son was brave, strong-willed and had no reason to take his own life. He cannot shoot himself,” Khawar’s father told reporters upon reaching Hyderabad. Accompanied by Khawar’s mother and brother, he insisted the family had no personal enmities or disputes that could have led to such an incident. “This is murder, not suicide,” he declared, urging authorities to uncover the truth.
The body of Khawar Hussain, who worked for a private television channel DAWN TV in Karachi, was discovered earlier this week. Police officials initially reported that Khawar appeared to have shot himself with his licensed pistol while traveling alone. According to investigators, the bullet struck his head, and the weapon was recovered from the scene.
A preliminary post-mortem report from medical authorities supported the police’s initial claim, listing suicide as the likely cause of death. However, the family has strongly contested these findings. They argue that Khawar’s personality and circumstances did not indicate any signs of depression or suicidal tendencies.
Police sources confirmed that CCTV footage, fingerprints, and other forensic evidence had been collected for further examination. Senior officers said a full investigation was underway and promised to keep all angles open, including the possibility of foul play. “We cannot rule out any theory until the forensic process is complete,” a police spokesperson stated.
Khawar Hussain’s sudden death has shocked the journalist community, with colleagues and press associations calling for an impartial probe. Several journalist unions have urged authorities to ensure that the investigation is not prematurely closed as a suicide without thoroughly exploring other possibilities.
Khawar was known as a dedicated reporter with a reputation for professionalism and courage. His tragic death has not only devastated his family but also raised concerns about the safety and protection of journalists in Pakistan.
As the case moves forward, his family continues to demand justice, hoping that a transparent inquiry will reveal whether Khawar’s death was indeed a suicide or a targeted killing disguised as one.
