DHAKA; Pakistan and Bangladesh have taken a significant step to enhance bilateral relations by agreeing to grant visa-free entry to holders of diplomatic and official passports. Additionally, both countries have decided to establish a joint committee to promote cooperation in key areas.

This development took place during a high-level meeting in Dhaka on Wednesday between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Bangladesh’s Minister of Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Upon arrival at the Bangladeshi Home Ministry, Mohsin Naqvi received a warm welcome and was presented with a guard of honour.

During the talks, the two ministers held detailed discussions on strengthening ties between Islamabad and Dhaka. They emphasized enhancing collaboration in areas such as internal security, police training, counter-narcotics operations, and anti-human trafficking initiatives. They also explored possibilities for cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.

As part of the outcomes, a joint committee has been formed to streamline and expand bilateral engagement, with Pakistan’s Interior Secretary Khurram Agha leading the Pakistani side. A high-level Bangladeshi delegation is expected to visit Islamabad soon to study Pakistan’s Safe City Project and the National Police Academy.

Speaking on the occasion, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury described Mohsin Naqvi’s visit as highly significant for boosting bilateral relations. He also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s offer to train Bangladeshi police officials, calling it a step toward deeper institutional collaboration between the two countries.
