ISLAMABAD; Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is set to travel to the United States next week to participate in a series of high-profile events related to Pakistan’s Presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York. His visit will also include important official engagements in Washington, D.C.

While in New York, the Deputy Prime Minister will chair several major sessions of the Security Council. One of the central events will be a high-level open debate on the theme: “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” This debate will seek to reinforce the role of multilateral diplomacy and conflict resolution mechanisms in maintaining global peace.

In addition, Mr. Dar will preside over the Security Council’s regular Quarterly Open Debate on the “Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question.” This session is expected to draw attention to ongoing challenges in the region and reaffirm the Council’s role in addressing the longstanding Palestinian issue.

He will also chair a high-level UN Security Council briefing aimed at deepening cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The meeting is being held as part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic initiative to enhance coordination between the UN and the OIC in promoting international peace and stability.

Further demonstrating Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, Deputy PM Dar will take part in a high-level conference focused on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution. His participation underscores Pakistan’s commitment to advocating for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination.

In addition to chairing these key forums, the Deputy Prime Minister is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with counterparts from other countries and senior United Nations officials during his stay in New York. These interactions will provide opportunities to strengthen diplomatic ties and advance Pakistan’s foreign policy objectives on global peace, conflict resolution, and regional cooperation.
