LAHORE: In a groundbreaking move, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched Pakistan’s first dedicated Riot Management Police Force, aimed at revolutionizing crowd control and enhancing public safety across the province.
Established within the Punjab Police structure, the force is tasked with safeguarding citizens’ lives, property, and key government assets.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that protecting public life and property remains her top priority. The provincial cabinet has formally approved the force, which comprises agile, physically fit officers specially trained to handle volatile situations with discipline and professionalism.
Following her directives, an intensive eight-week training program—drawing on manuals from the US, Turkiye, Europe, and other advanced countries—was completed at the Police Training Center Farooqabad. Trainers with expertise from Turkiye oversaw the instruction.
In the first phase, 5,000 personnel are being inducted, with 3,000 already trained and ready for deployment.
Each of Punjab’s regional headquarters will receive 250 officers to ensure a rapid, coordinated response to any civil unrest.
