Moscow: Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the energy sector during a high-level meeting in Moscow.
As part of his two-day official visit to the Russian Federation, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Syed Tariq Fatemi, met with Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Energy, Pavel Sorokin, on Wednesday.
Ambassador Fatemi expressed satisfaction over the ongoing energy collaboration between the two countries and conveyed optimism about expanding partnerships in this critical area.
He appreciated Russia’s support in strengthening Pakistan’s energy security and highlighted the role of both governments and private sectors in advancing bilateral energy initiatives. Fatemi underscored that energy remains a key priority in Pakistan-Russia cooperation.
Deputy Minister Sorokin, who had previously visited Pakistan in February and met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, echoed the positive momentum in bilateral energy ties. He identified potential areas for future collaboration, including hydropower, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and the modernization of oil refineries.
Sorokin also noted that energy would be a major focus at the upcoming 10th session of the Pakistan-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, to be held in Islamabad later this year.
The meeting concluded on a constructive note, with both sides agreeing to explore multiple avenues of mutual interest, particularly in energy, to further strengthen bilateral relations.
