ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan and the European Union convened the fifth round of their Dialogue on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament in Islamabad on 12 June, according to a joint press release issued simultaneously from both capitals.
During the meeting, both sides held an extensive exchange of views on key issues concerning international and regional peace, security, and strategic stability. The discussions focused on multiple facets of disarmament and non-proliferation, particularly in the context of the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and global disarmament treaties such as the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Participants also reviewed recent developments in export control regimes and examined the security implications of emerging technologies.
The dialogue is considered an important element of the broader strategic partnership between Pakistan and the European Union. Both parties acknowledged it as a vital platform for advancing shared objectives related to arms control, non-proliferation, and global stability.
It was agreed that the sixth round of the Dialogue will be hosted by the European Union in Brussels in 2026.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Foreign Secretary for Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security, while the EU delegation was headed by Ambassador Stephan Klement, the European Union’s Special Envoy for Non-Proliferation and Disarmament.
