ISLAMABAD (MNN); Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Thursday that “indirect talks” between the United States and Iran are underway through messages being conveyed by Pakistan.
In a statement on the social media platform X, he dismissed media speculation regarding formal peace negotiations, clarifying that communication is currently being facilitated via diplomatic channels.
Dar revealed that the United States has shared a 15-point proposal with Iran, which is presently under consideration in Tehran. He added that countries like Turkiye and Egypt are also supporting the initiative.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s role, he stated that the country remains committed to promoting peace and stability, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable path forward. He also tagged key figures including Marco Rubio, Abbas Araghchi and Donald Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff.
Meanwhile, President Trump claimed on his platform Truth Social that Iranian negotiators were “begging” for a deal, warning them to act quickly.
The development follows confirmation by Iranian officials that Pakistan had conveyed a US proposal aimed at ending the conflict. Reports suggest the plan includes restrictions on Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes, cessation of support for regional groups, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
In return, the proposal offers sanctions relief and international support for Iran’s civilian nuclear programme.
However, Iran’s state media Press TV reported that Tehran initially responded negatively, asserting that it would decide the timing of the war’s end based on its own conditions. These include cessation of hostilities, guarantees against future conflict, compensation for damages, and recognition of its authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite this, Reuters reported that Iran is still reviewing the proposal and has not completely rejected it.
At the same time, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the ongoing talks as “productive,” claiming Iran’s military capabilities are weakening and that the US is nearing its strategic objectives.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had offered Pakistan’s services to host meaningful negotiations between the US and Iran, an offer that was also shared by President Trump on Truth Social.
