ISLAMABAD (MNN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, stressing the urgent need for collective efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and return to dialogue and diplomacy.
The call comes as the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran enters its fourth week, with escalating hostilities impacting regional stability and relations among Gulf countries.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif expressed “serious concern” over the worsening situation in the Gulf region and underscored the importance of unity among Muslim nations to address the crisis.
He highlighted the need for neighbouring countries to work together to resolve differences through peaceful means and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting regional peace.
The prime minister also conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with Iran, expressing condolences over the loss of lives and wishing a speedy recovery for those injured and displaced due to the conflict.
In addition, he extended greetings to the Iranian leadership and people on the occasions of Eidul Fitr and Nowruz, which were warmly reciprocated by President Pezeshkian.
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held telephonic discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, focusing on the evolving regional situation and emphasizing the role of diplomacy in ensuring peace and stability.
Dar also spoke with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, with both sides expressing concern over rising tensions and agreeing on the need for collective efforts to prevent further escalation.
Both conversations also included the exchange of Eidul Fitr greetings, reaffirming diplomatic engagement amid the ongoing crisis.
