Khankendi, Azerbaijan: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a significant bilateral meeting with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, which is taking place in Khankendi, Azerbaijan from July 3rd to 4th, 2025.
During their discussions, both leaders reviewed the extensive ongoing bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Iran across various sectors. They expressed satisfaction with the progress made on decisions from their previous meeting, which aimed at further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations.
A key point of discussion was the evolving regional situation, particularly in the wake of what was termed “Israel’s illegitimate aggression against Iran.” Prime Minister Sharif lauded President Pezeshkian’s leadership and commended Iran’s decision to agree to a ceasefire during the recent crisis.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people and government of Iran. He underscored Pakistan’s strong commitment to continuing close cooperation with Iran to foster peace in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s strong diplomatic support to Iran, including at international forums, during the recent crisis. He thanked Prime Minister Sharif for Pakistan’s vital role in de-escalating the conflict.
The meeting concluded with Prime Minister Sharif requesting President Pezeshkian to convey his warm greetings and good wishes to His Eminence the Supreme Leader of Iran. The engagement highlights the ongoing efforts by both nations to deepen their strategic partnership and contribute to regional stability.
