LAHORE (MNN); Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated the Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority (PAFDA), touring its various departments and reviewing the authority’s operations.
During the visit, the leaders received a detailed briefing on laboratory facilities, and a documentary highlighted the reform measures introduced under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s leadership.
Speaking at the ceremony, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of a transparent monitoring system for agricultural products and medicines. He said PAFDA is poised to become a regional center of excellence and praised the Punjab government for using modern technology to ensure accountability. He also commended the scientists and technical experts working on the project.
The prime minister lauded CM Maryam Nawaz for spearheading initiatives that benefit not only Punjab but the entire country, including the establishment of a network of forensic laboratories aimed at producing conclusive evidence for criminal cases.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described PAFDA’s creation as a model of citizen-focused governance. She noted that Punjab is progressing steadily toward development and prosperity through digital transformation and strict merit-based management.
Maryam Nawaz added that inadequate laboratory facilities had previously caused challenges for exporters and consumers. She highlighted that satellite crime scene units are being expanded to 38 districts and called PAFDA the result of a decade-long effort to strengthen testing infrastructure in an agriculture-dependent nation.
