ISLAMABAD (MNN); The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday predicted a new spell of rain and snowfall in several parts of the country starting January 31, urging citizens and tourists, particularly in northern and mountainous areas, to remain cautious due to expected severe weather conditions.
According to the PMD, a weak westerly weather system is likely to enter western and northern regions from January 30 and continue until February 3. During this period, cloudy conditions with rain and light to moderate snowfall are expected in northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other northern areas.
The department said that from February 1 to 3, rain is likely in Islamabad, the Potohar region, Sialkot, Gujranwala and nearby areas, while Murree, Galiyat and adjoining regions may experience rain along with snowfall.
Rain accompanied by thunder and snowfall is also forecast in northern parts of Balochistan between January 31 and February 1.
The PMD cautioned that snowfall may cause slippery road conditions, leading to traffic disruptions, while the risk of landslides may increase in hilly and upper regions. Tourists and residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and adopt precautionary measures during the forecast period.
