ISLAMABAD (MNN); The federal government has decided to summon a joint session of Parliament on January 20, during which several important legislative measures are expected to be taken up, sources said on Wednesday.
According to the sources, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has forwarded a summary to President Asif Ali Zardari seeking approval for convening the joint sitting.
It was learnt that as many as 29 bills are likely to be placed before the joint session. These include 11 government bills and 18 private members’ bills.
Sources said that 24 of the proposed bills had earlier been returned by the president, while five others had been passed by one house of Parliament but were still awaiting approval from the other chamber.
The final decision regarding which bills will be presented in the joint sitting will be made by the government. Key steps aimed at moving the legislative agenda forward are expected during the session.
