ISLAMABAD (MNN); Pakistan and Bangladesh’s air chiefs held detailed talks on the possible procurement of JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft as part of broader discussions aimed at strengthening defence cooperation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
The JF-17 Thunder, a multi-role combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China, has demonstrated its operational effectiveness during military engagements with India in 2019 and 2025.
According to an ISPR statement, Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan called on Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu in Islamabad, leading a high-level defence delegation during his visit.
The meeting focused on enhancing operational collaboration and institutional coordination, with particular emphasis on training, capacity building and cooperation in aerospace development.
The visiting air chief was presented with a guard of honour on arrival. Air Chief Marshal Sidhu briefed his Bangladeshi counterpart on recent advancements made by the Pakistan Air Force and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Bangladesh Air Force through a comprehensive training framework, ranging from basic to advanced flying and specialised courses at PAF institutions.
He also assured expedited delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, along with complete training facilities and long-term technical support.
The Bangladeshi air chief lauded the PAF’s combat performance and expressed keen interest in benefiting from its operational experience. He sought assistance in maintenance support for the Bangladesh Air Force’s ageing fleet and in integrating air defence radar systems to strengthen aerial surveillance.
ISPR said detailed discussions were also held regarding the potential acquisition of JF-17 Thunder jets, while the visiting delegation toured key Pakistan Air Force facilities.
The statement added that the visit highlighted the strong historical relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh and reflected a shared commitment to expanding defence ties and building a long-term strategic partnership.
