ISLAMABAD (MNN); Punjab Police have implemented extensive security arrangements for New Year’s Eve, deploying more than 25,000 police officers across Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure public safety during the celebrations.
Authorities have strictly banned dangerous activities including one-wheeling, reckless driving and celebratory aerial firing. Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar warned that anyone harassing women or disrupting public order will be arrested immediately.
In Islamabad, eight special enforcement squads have been formed to curb reckless driving, one-wheeling and other nuisance activities. Dedicated traffic units will remain deployed at major recreational and crowded locations, while the entry of heavy vehicles into the city will be restricted from 7pm to 3am.
Parents have been urged to discourage minors from underage driving or performing stunts. Meanwhile, in Murree, Section 144 has been imposed to maintain peace and ensure a safe atmosphere for tourists. For the next two days, entry to Mall Road will be restricted to families only.
In Rawalpindi, over 5,000 police personnel, including 850 traffic wardens, will be on duty. Aerial firing, fireworks and other hazardous activities have been completely prohibited, with strict monitoring across the city.
The SSP Operations Islamabad said that law enforcement agencies will take firm action against any illegal or disruptive activity during New Year celebrations. The measures are part of a broader strategy to maintain law and order and provide a safe and peaceful environment for residents and visitors during the festive period.
