RAWALPINDI (MNN); Former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed has been handed a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence by a military court, the ISPR announced on Thursday.
According to the military’s media wing, the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) proceedings began on August 12, 2024, under the Pakistan Army Act, and continued for nearly 15 months.
The statement said Hameed faced four charges, including involvement in political activities, violations of the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and government resources, and causing financial losses to individuals.
After extensive hearings, the court found him guilty on all counts, and the sentence was formally issued on December 11, 2025.
ISPR added that all legal formalities were fully observed during the trial and Hameed was granted complete access to the defence team of his choosing. He also retains the right to appeal the verdict.
The military further noted that separate inquiries were ongoing regarding his alleged role in creating political unrest in collaboration with certain political groups.
The conviction follows months after DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif stated in October that the case would reach its logical conclusion after completion of due legal process and examination of evidence.
Hameed was arrested in August 2024 following allegations of misconduct by the owner of a private housing society, a turning point that challenged the perception that former intelligence chiefs were beyond accountability.
He was indicted later that year for political interference, violating anti-espionage laws, and abusing official authority.
Following the announcement, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Hameed had also been punished in the Top City corruption case, and stressed that the conviction was based strictly on evidence. Tarar said Hameed misused his office and that further investigations regarding his political role would continue. He alleged that Hameed acted as a political adviser to PTI and was involved in efforts that destabilised the state.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif posted a reaction on social media, remarking that the consequences of actions taken by Faiz Hameed and former army chief Gen Bajwa would continue to affect the nation for years.
