Web Desk (MNN); After a prolonged delay, Bollywood’s high-octane thriller Dhurandhar has finally arrived in Indian cinemas, offering a storyline built around hijacking incidents, the 2001 Parliament attack and covert military operations.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features Ranveer Singh in the lead, supported by an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan and Sara Arjun. The plot draws inspiration from real events, regional tensions and the Indian Army’s secret missions.
India Today reported that press screenings scheduled for December 4 in Delhi and Mumbai were cancelled due to technical problems. Ahead of the release, Deepika Padukone shared a social media post on December 4 wishing her husband Ranveer Singh success.
Following the film’s premiere, Akshaye Khanna’s performance has received strong praise online. One viewer wrote on X: “After the interval, Akshaye Khanna is outstanding.”
Sara Arjun, daughter of actor Raj Arjun, plays Ranveer Singh’s romantic lead. Having begun her acting career at a young age, she has already worked in several films and commercials.
Dhurandhar has been released with an “A” certificate and runs for 3 hours and 34 minutes, making it the longest Bollywood film to hit theatres in 17 years. It is also Ranveer Singh’s first film to receive an adults-only rating.
The narrative centres on a secret mission launched by Ajay Sambhal, then chief of India’s Intelligence Bureau, following the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Parliament attack. The operation targets alleged militant networks in Pakistan. The project is expected to unfold in two parts, adding to audience curiosity.
Early audience turnout was moderate, though viewers praised Ranveer Singh’s performance. Many said the film’s controversies did not affect their decision to watch it.
On the day of release, director Aditya Dhar’s wife, actor Yami Gautam, also extended her support, sharing best wishes for the team on social media.
