ISLAMABAD (MNN); The federal government announced on Thursday that Uzma Khanum and others who violated jail regulations during their meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan will not be allowed any further visits.
Uzma Khanum had met Imran Khan in jail on Tuesday after several weeks of attempts. The meeting came at a time when rumours about Imran Khan’s health were circulating in local and international media, even though both government officials and PTI leaders claimed that the former prime minister was in good health.
These rumours intensified primarily because, in recent weeks, the government had been reluctant to allow even family members and lawyers to meet Imran Khan. Following her visit, Uzma shared detailed instructions she said were conveyed by Imran regarding political and organisational matters.
Addressing a joint press conference with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that political discussions inside prison are strictly prohibited. He said: “There is no room in the prison rules for political discussions. Reports confirmed that political matters were discussed, therefore meetings for Uzma Khan have been banned. This will not be allowed.”
He further claimed that instances of incitement against the state and officials had also surfaced. “Anyone who violates the rules will face a ban,” Attaullah said, adding that it is unacceptable for visitors to meet an inmate and then promote “Indian and Afghan narratives” or generate targeted posts against the army or the army chief.
The information minister noted that the government had already exercised leniency once, but now, “the meeting has been banned for whoever committed the violation.” He stressed that the government would not tolerate any additional breaches and would act firmly: “There is zero room for a circus.”
Law Minister Tarar clarified that the protocols for jail meetings remain unchanged. He said that the prison manual clearly outlines conditions and restrictions for such visits, and those rules apply to everyone without exception.
