Web Desk (MNN); President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday met Dr Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, at Aiwan-e-Sadr where both leaders discussed regional tensions, bilateral relations, and political coordination.
Dr Larijani thanked Pakistan for extending diplomatic support to Iran during the recent 12-day confrontation with Israel. He also conveyed goodwill messages from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
President Zardari welcomed Dr Larijani and congratulated him on assuming his new responsibilities. He said regular engagement between Pakistan and Iran reflected positive momentum in bilateral relations, noting that his August meeting with the Iranian president had been a constructive and cordial exchange.
The president expressed gratitude to Iran for its solidarity during Pakistan’s devastating floods and acknowledged the humanitarian assistance provided by the Iranian Red Crescent. He said both nations shared historical, religious, and cultural ties.
Zardari also appreciated Iran’s continued support for Pakistan in past conflicts with India and reaffirmed Islamabad’s political and diplomatic backing for Tehran following Israeli aggression. He further praised Iran’s firm positions on the issues of Kashmir and Palestine.
Dr Larijani lauded the resolve and achievements of Pakistan’s armed forces in confronting recent security threats, saying Iran regarded Pakistan’s successes as its own.
