ISLAMABAD; The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Monday announced the expulsion of Senator Ahmad Khan from the party for voting in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment in the Senate.
According to a party statement, Senator Ahmad Khan violated the party’s policy by supporting the amendment, which was passed amid opposition protests. The party has directed him to immediately resign from his Senate seat.
“If he does not submit his resignation, the party will approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to seek his disqualification,” the statement added.
The decision was made based on the recommendations of senior JUI-F senators Maulana Attaur Rehman and Maulana Abdul Wasey.
Senator Ahmad Khan, who represents Balochistan, took oath as a member of the Senate on April 9, 2024. The 27th Constitutional Amendment was passed after the government secured the required 64 votes. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Saifullah Abro also voted in favor before resigning from the Senate.
