BAKU; Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Friday at the Presidential Palace in Baku, as confirmed by a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office. Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also attended the meeting.

PM Shehbaz arrived in Baku for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President Aliyev, during which he will attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day ceremony. Victory Day marks the historic triumph in the 44-day Karabakh Liberation War against Armenia.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, was warmly received at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Razayev, Pakistani Ambassador Qasim Mohiuddin, and other diplomatic staff.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to President Aliyev for the invitation and congratulated the Azerbaijani government and people on their Victory Day. He remarked that Azerbaijan’s victory serves as a beacon of hope for oppressed populations, including those in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in political, trade and investment, energy, connectivity, and defence sectors. PM Shehbaz invited President Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which was graciously accepted. The Prime Minister also appreciated Aliyev’s signing of the historic peace agreement with Armenia earlier this year.

President Aliyev, in turn, thanked Pakistan for its consistent support in Azerbaijan’s struggle against the illegal occupation of Karabakh and acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional stability in South Asia.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan share long-standing fraternal relations rooted in shared faith, culture, history, and trust. This visit is expected to reinforce Pakistan’s support for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and further advance strategic partnership between the two nations. PM Shehbaz had also visited Azerbaijan in May during a four-nation tour, where both leaders renewed their commitment to diversify strategic cooperation, particularly through investment and development initiatives.
